4/2/2023 0 Comments Lost caves of phandelver![]() ![]() I also added a bridge in the Blast Furnace room to make combat a bit more tactically interesting, as well as interpreting the room that leads to the untouched storeroom as a kitchen of sorts. I've also dropped small remnants of workshop tables in the mushroom cave, perhaps t o reflect that it may have been managed by Gnomes and now has grown wild. The new additions are some new hints of collapsed tunnels and rooms to reflect that the cave complex may have once been bigger, as well as new mine cart tracks and equipment to better explain how the blast furnace operated, complete with pig iron troughs and ramps allowing dwarves to drop in raw ore. I did take a few liberties, but didn't make any actual changes to the layout or what is supposed to be encountered in each room. There are subtle hints of blast marks in the area around the spellforge and shattered magical staffs to reflect how the battle transitioned from martial combat into spell combat as it got closer to the forge all those years ago. ![]() The mine portions are quite clean to reflect the jellies lurking in the area, and I've added bones in rooms with ghouls, and increasing numbers of webs to reflect areas under Nezznar's control. ![]() I wanted to recreate the feeling of an ancient battle raging in certain rooms, a mix of orc, human, and dwarven bones, as well as beds that are sized slightly smaller to reflect the dwarven miner population (and some custom stone doors, pillars, etc). I've tried to keep a clean, legible layout while adding in as much flavor as possible without being overwhelming. I decided to recreate the map using as much detail from the books as possible using Dungeondraft and some custom asset packs I've put up on CartographyAssets. it's a massive map, so the detail is really scant. If the party would see the statue in slowly being carved out and constructed as they returned periodically back to Phandalin.Ī platinum signet (50 gp) bears the Tresendar crest (griffin) and can be found in the Tresendar Crypts.I think Lost Mine of Phandelver has some of the better maps among the official 5e campaigns, but I have always been a little disappointed in the final Wave Echo Cave map. My characters ended up giving the sword to Phandalin, and the city went to work on helping rebury the remains of the Tresendar family, and build a statue in honor of Aldith Tresendar (who I made a griffin knight of the Waterdeep calvalry). Talon was lost here until the nothic found it. Sir Aldith died fighting off the orcs that attacked through the hidden caverns below his manor. A character who succeeds on a DC 15 Intelligence (History) check recognizes the sword and recalls this lore. It once belonged to a great knight named Aldith Tresendar, known as the Black Hawk. The sword is inscribed with the name “ Talon,” and its hilt is worked in the shape of a bird of prey with outspread wings. The chest also holds a +l longsword in a silver-chased scabbard. On the surface, the fairly mundane sword +1 doesn’t look like much. He’d be a great villain to periodically pop into the various future campaign arcs.Ī chest in the crevasse holds a key item for possible future hooks. I’d like for Glasstaff to kind of be one of the villains that constantly show up as a foil to the characters, so I need to come up with a more solid background and motivations for him. Glasstaff and the Redbrands will have to find a new base of operations, while the town of Phandalin can set about fixing Tresendar Manor back to its original glory. It’s likely he snuck back into Phandalin under the clock of darkness. Glasstaff, having been invisible, managed to sneak out undetected. He managed to escape recently when our adventuring party infiltrated Tresendar Manor and managed to clear it of the Redbrands. The drow promised to share the secrets and wealth of the Forge of Spells with the wizard in exchange for his help and loyalty. Larno knew of the Black Spider through his contacts in the Lords’ Alliance and brokered a meeting. Originally tasked with setting up a constabulary, the mage instead assembled a group of outlaws and local ruffians to secure his own position in town. A party creeps into the underkeep of Tresendar Manor.Īlbrek, also known as Glasstaff, carries a magic staff made of glass.Ī former member of the Lords’ Alliance, larno seized an opportunity in Phandalin to line his own pockets. ![]()
